In today's episode we answer a listener's question about how to grow a balanced diet on your homestead. You can grow almost everything you need for a balanced diet, if you've got the space.

I talk about raising meat rabbits, chickens for meat and eggs, growing your own fruits, vegetables, grains and root crops, and more. You can also grow things to help balance your diet no matter how small your space is. The HappyLeafLED kit lets you grow a salad all year long if you've got a small table and a electrical outlet, and quail can live in a really small place.

You don't have to do it all at once, but you can get started with one thing today. The sense of accomplishment and overall wellness that you will achieve by growing a balanced diet can really take you places.

I love the book "Gaia's Garden", by Toby Hemenway and I'm not afraid to say it. This book is jam packed with useful information on sustainable gardening methods and permaculture principles. I have turned to this book time and time again for needed information here on the homestead and in my business of edible landscape design.
In this episode i cover some of the few things i have found most useful. I strongly suggest getting this book to assist you on your way to living a more sustainable life.

Is Prepping Prudence or Paranoia? I think it can be either. It all depends how you approach it. I think that it is important to be prepared in all things, but it is very easy to get caught up in the fear driven prepping tidal wave.
In this episode I give you a few practical preparedness tips and encourage you to become more prepared today.

In this weeks episode I tell you all about my favorite homesteading book "The Self Sufficient Life and How To Live It" by John Seymour. This book is really all you need to get started. As you travel the path of more and more self reliance you can get more books to add to your collection but this is the first one I would get. It can be found at Amazon for around $20.
