In this episode I have the pleasure to interview Carlos Cunha. This weeks episode is longer than usual but I think we covered some really interesting topics. Carlos is a homesteader, story teller, writer, photographer, dad, husband, and more. This episode is marked explicit because one of the stories is maybe not suitable for all ages. I really enjoyed this interview and I hope you do too.

In today's episode we answer a listener's question about how to grow a balanced diet on your homestead. You can grow almost everything you need for a balanced diet, if you've got the space.
I talk about raising meat rabbits, chickens for meat and eggs, growing your own fruits, vegetables, grains and root crops, and more. You can also grow things to help balance your diet no matter how small your space is. The HappyLeafLED kit lets you grow a salad all year long if you've got a small table and a electrical outlet, and quail can live in a really small place. You don't have to do it all at once, but you can get started with one thing today. The sense of accomplishment and overall wellness that you will achieve by growing a balanced diet can really take you places. In this weeks episode I tell you all about my favorite homesteading book "The Self Sufficient Life and How To Live It" by John Seymour. This book is really all you need to get started. As you travel the path of more and more self reliance you can get more books to add to your collection but this is the first one I would get. It can be found at Amazon for around $20.

This interview is with Vic Zaderej from Happy Leaf LED. Vic and his wife, Polly are really into helping people grow food at home. LED grow systems were first pioneered by NASA, but now we can use that technology at home. This episode is about how Happy Leaf is helping people just like you grow healthy, flavorful, inexpensive vegetables in their own passive hydroponic system at home! We also have a special code in the show that will save you 10% at checkout when shopping at Happy Leaf's website. www.happyleafled.com

In this weeks episode, we have the pleasure to hear from Elvira Dibrigit, author of "Why We Farm." The audio is a not so good because this is my first Skype interview and I still have a lot to learn.
Her book is about the farmers of the Capay Valley in California. Most of the farmers in her book have small holdings and rely on C.S.A.s (community supported agriculture) and farmers markets to sell their produce. This hidden valley is a refreshing glimpse into the past (and the future), before most farmers had to have huge holdings in order to make a profit. Today farmers only make up around 3% of our total population. This book is all about inspiring you and I to grow something and support those that do. You can buy her book and learn more about her work at www.whywefarmcapay.com and your favorite social media site at Why We Farm. Meet Miki our most current WWOOFer. Miki is from Japan. She has been traveling the world and decided to WWOOF in order to make meaningful connections and eat wholesome food while on her journey. Miki has moved on since our interview but plans on WWOOFing through out her future travels.
