Episode 48 is all about homesteading hacks. I have brought 5 to the table. They are: pallet compost bins, pvc gutter with rain catchment, tarp lean-to with rain catchment, keeping gas fresh and on hand, and how we keep cats from using our planters as toilets.

Setting goals is a very important part of living a sustainable life. On a homestead there is a lot to be done all the time. It can get very overwhelming if you don't break it down into smaller pieces. Setting clear and well defined goals is the only way to realize your dreams and ambitions.
In this episode we talk about the S.M.A.R.T. way to set goals and how to break down those "30,000ft" goals. Get your Anywhere, Anytime garden in a box at www.happyleafled.com Please visit us at www.havenhomestead.com and support us at www.patreon.com/havenhomestead Thanks for Listening!!
Merry Christmas everyone! This episode is just for fun with no ads, just the family and I wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I hope you enjoy this and it brings you a little Christmas cheer.
Christmas is a time for family, so in this episode I interview my mom. She got me started on this path of gardening, animal raising, and making things for myself (but my dad taught me the value of fixing things yourself so you don't have to pay someone else to do it, but that's a topic for a different day). In today's episode we talk about things like saving money by mulching your garden with leaves, grass, wood chips, animal manure, and garden waste. We also talk about how to find cheap tools. The last topic we discuss is how our strawbale gardens did compared to the lasagna style garden.

Our friend Marty from Black Flag Farms wrote in about some of the plants he is planning on growing next year. I thought it would be a good idea to do an episode on what to grow with and around these few plants. Some of the plants we talk about are tomatoes, onions, asparagus, strawberries, cucumbers and squash.
